“Learning by ear” from Deutsche Welle and IICD

Deutsche Welle has developed a “Learning by Ear” programme to make educational materials for the public more widely available in Africa by radio, internet and CD. These include health and social issues amongst other topics; and programmes are available in six languages including Kiswahili, Hausa, and Amharic.

They have formed a partnership with IICD, which will work with its national ICT4D networks in Zambia, Ethiopia, Ghana and Uganda. The audiobooks they have received will be used as a tool in education, health and economic development programmes, in classrooms and vocational training programmes.  Read more.

It seems to me that librarians ought to know more about these resources as they can be useful in patient education and public health programmes.
