I was interested to read the note below from the Institute for Development Studies (IDS). One of the questions in the survey was:
“Libraries are not important – researchers can find what they need by Google: Agree…Disagree?”
This prompts me to ask the same question here. Personally I strongly value the role of libraries and, especially, library and information professionals. HIFA was originally launched at a congress of the Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa (Mombasa 2006). Our fist 100 members were almost all library and information professionals in Africa. The HIFA Steering Group met last week and noted that it would be valuable to explore further the role and challenges of health librarians in LMICs. We welcome your inputs.
Democratising access to knowledge
To inform discussion at the forthcoming Eldis 20th Anniversary Workshop we have developed a short survey to help us understand your views on the current barriers to effective knowledge sharing and the role that digital platforms, libraries and knowledge management initiatives can play in addressing these. The survey is particularly targeted at those within research organisations that support research publication, communication and knowledge sharing includiing librarians and information professionals, communications and publications staff and other knowledge brokers.
The survey can be accessed using the link below and should only take 10 minutes to complete.
Best wishes, Neil
